Microdermabrasion Creams Effect on Acne Scars

by Catalina Igor

Scars treatments with a microdermabrasion cream can further promote new skin cell production in the deepest layer of the skin as it clears dull and flawed skin.

The procedure can take about 30 minutes and best results are achieved with 4 to 12 treatments, depending on the extension of the damage to the skin in the area. Skin in the treated area will be slightly red or pink for a couple of weeks afterward.

You may find your skin to be tight for the first 24-48 hours. You may feel like a moderate sunburn or windburn, but no further pain is common. A 30 SPF will help defend the skin from solar burns after the microdermabrasion procedure. Also, some peeling and slight crusting can be expected in the area. No anesthesia is needed for this procedure, since it is non-invasive.

Microdermabrasion treatment is a good option for those who wish to unclog pores and reduce fine acne scarring. Results will last and the healing of skin proves to eliminate acne scars, as well as overall appearance.

For pitted acne scars, subcision with needles is used by specialists to break up the deeply buried scar tissue. The cream should be used before and after those procedures to accelerate new healthy skin creation and remodeling: the orderly process of laying out new collagen and elastin fibers.

Microdermabrasion comes from a technique called dermabrasion. Dermabrasion has been around for many years and was created to treat severe scarring by polishing the uppermost surface of the skin with an abrasive, metallic instrument. This highly effective technique requires recovery time, not to mention anesthesia. A gentler and less invasive skin-resurfacing technology is used for microdermabrasion. And, there is no risk of dyschromia on darkly pigmented patients.

Microdermabrasion Treatments - Explained in 3 steps

1.- Home Microdermabrasion. There's no need of skin preparation before the exfoliation. No pre-peel preparation with any other regime is needed. First, clean your skin with an alcohol cleanser. Then just apply the cream on clean skin, with either the tips of your fingers or with a dry and soft cloth. Simply apply a small quantity to the skin and rub in a rotational pattern. Wipe after ten minutes.

2.- Application of the cream: The microdermabrasion cream can be applied with the tips of your fingers or with a cloth until redness appears. Leave the product on your skin for about ten minutes. Then cleanse by brushing or wiping off the micro-crystals. Usually with a 1 or 2 minutes massage to an area of 10x10 cm (4 x 4 inches) the exfoliating of cells will be enough. Note that the entire area must be treated. The amount to be used is about 0.5 g per 10 × 10 cm area.

3.- Several treatments are needed to alleviate acne scars. Treatments should be repeated every 2-3 days. Superficial acne scars will need a 2 months treatment to achieve about 60% to 80% improvement, whereas it may take as much as 4 or 6 months of treatment to significantly treat old, large and deep marks.
