Acne can take on several forms. Most people will experience cases of mild to moderate acne. Most often, these people will purchase an acne remedies at the drugstore.

Others suffer from hormonal acne, which flares up during certain times of the month or when they find themselves under stressful situations. This type of acne condition will normally subside on its own. However, some people do require hormonal treatments to keep this type of acne under control.

Another, more painful acne condition may affect some acne sufferers. This acne condition is called severe acne. Nodulocystic acne is an uncommon form of acne vulgaris. It is characterized by nodular cysts of acne. In this case, the cyst isn't a true cyst but an abnormal dilation of the skin structure.

The cysts may be caused by a papular (of or relating to an inflammatory comedo) or nodular (of or relating to a large, pus filled lump beneath the skin's surface) acne lesion. Cysts filled with fluid will usually be infected. They will probably need to be drained so that the lesion can heal.

Do not, under any circumstances, try to drain the cyst at home. If you do, you will risk the chance of infection. A cyst should only be drained by a doctor in sterile conditions.

When cysts occur in a small area they can actually combine. This leads to soft patches of skin connected by tunnels, cell destruction, and inflammation. Or, it can also lead to another severe form of acne known as acne conglobata.

Nodulocystic Acne and its Acne Solutions

It is no surprise that this form of acne needs to be treated with expert medical attention. Potent acne medication is usually needed to treat this form of acne. For this type of condition to be treated successfully it requires several treatments.

Don't lose hope. Several treatments may be necessary because of the need to adjust medication and acne treatment until the ideal combination is found. Some treatment options used for nodulocystic acne may include isotretinoin, antibiotics, and oral contraceptives.

If these treatments show no effect, it may also be necessary to surgically remove and drain the cysts or nodules. As previously stated, a doctor should be in charge of doing this type of procedure. Another treatment option that applied is the use of intralesional corticoid injections that dissolve larger cysts.
